KEA has a set of general codes of conduct, which apply to everyone. Locally, there might be more detailed codes.
Code of conduct
In addition to codes governing conduct, the code of conduct also includes general regulations, safety regulations, house rules, notices, signs and announcements on Fronter and the Intranet. These local codes must be followed even though they are not mentioned among the codes below.
Everyone at KEA is obliged to observe the general and the safety regulations.
Conduct
- Both students and employees at KEA must be considerate of others and see to it that everyone at KEA is able to work and study in a constructive, open and undisturbed environment.
- The dialogue between students and employees and among the students themselves should be based on openness, equality and respect for the individual person and his/her opinions.
- KEA respects the principle of religious freedom and regards the practice of religion as a personal and private matter.
- Noisy behaviour, eating and drinking must take place without disturbing other people.
- It is possible to borrow KEA´s rooms for class events. When borrowing a room, the form ”Aftaler om lån af lokaler til fester/fredagsbarer på KEA” must be filled in on sdbf.dk/kea. Afterwards, the event must be approved of by KEA Student Life and Campus Service.
- Smoking is not allowed indoors – this also applies to e-cigarettes. Outside KEA, smoking is allowed wherever ashtrays are available.
- Drinking alcohol is not allowed during working hours, except during the opening hours of the student café. The Director of Department may waive this rule on special occasions.
- Drugs are not allowed under any circumstances.
IT Regulations
- The students must observe the existing IT rules.
- The Internet cannot be used for downloading programs, information from web pages or communications that are considered illegal according to the Danish criminal Code, the Consolidation Act on Copyright or other legislation governing the use of the Internet.
- If a student wishes to make an audio or video recording of a teaching sequence, both the class and the involved teachers must have accepted it in advance.
Breach reporting
Breaches of existing rules are reported to the Head of Programme who decides what course of action to take. A breach reporting must be submitted in writing, or as soon as possible be accompanied by a written report, which will be presented to the student.
- Any employee who witnesses any gross violations of the rules is entitled to suspend the student from KEA until the incident has been reported and dealt with.
- Repeated or gross violations must be reported to the Director.
- Criminal offences such as threats, violent behaviour, vandalism, arson, theft and the like will immediately be reported to the police.
- The Director decides what sanctions should be made in cases that are relevant to the functioning of the school.
Sanctions
In cases of code violation, the Head of Programme may decide to impose one of the following sanctions:
- Issue of formal warning. The formal warning stays on the student’s record for the duration of his or her programme.
- Exclusion from some of the teaching activities, including the IT system.
- The Head of Programme may expel a student from KEA if it is deemed necessary for the functioning of KEA.
- Suspension from KEA for a limited period of time. The period will be determined based on a specific and proportional assessment of the particular violation. The decision of suspension must be reported to the student in writing within two days after the decision has been made.
- Repeated violations will be considered aggravating circumstances when determining the sanction.
- Expulsion from KEA. The decision of expulsion must be reported to the student in writing within two days after the decision is made.
Procedure
Before a decision is reached in the case, the student must be given the opportunity to be heard. The student is entitled to be assisted by an assessor, except in readily demonstrable cases of abuse of the IT system.
A decision made by the Head of Programme can be brought before the Director no later than two weeks after the decision has been reported to the student.
In legal cases, the student can bring the decision of the Head of Programme before the Ministry of Higher Education and Science no later than two weeks after the student has been informed of the decision.
