At KEA you can do workplace internship in Denmark or abroad (also called international internship). On these pages you can read more about how to find an internship company, the practicalities of internships, the internship contract and much more.
Workplace Internship
Each programme decides which types of internship are possible, i.e. professionally relevant. Only workplace internship and international internship (workplace internship) are approved types of internship by all KEA's programmes.
On your programme page under internship, you can see with types of internship your programme acknowledges.
Workplace internship in Denmark
In a workplace internship, you will be physically placed in the internship company.
You can take part in the daily tasks and/or work with agreed projects. As long as you are physically placed in the company, the type of internship is workplace internship, even if you are working on a project.
The advantages of being physically placed in the company are that:
- professional sparring is made easier
- you’re an integrated part of the company
- you get insight in your colleagues’ work
- it’s easier to get a network that you can use afterwards as a job-seeker
International internship
International internships are workplace internships abroad.
It is important that you start looking for your internship company at an early stage, as you will also need to arrange travel, accommodation, insurance, etc., yourself.
For an internship in an EU country, you can apply for an Erasmus scholarship. You will receive information about the application procedure from KEA Global approximately 2 weeks after the internship contract has been approved by both the company and you.

Internship in Europe
You are free to do an internship within the EU if you are an EU citizen. It does not require a visa.
When you arrive at your destination, you may need to inform the local authorities that you are staying in that city upcoming period to be in practice.
Erasmus grants
The Erasmus+ program supports internships in the program countries.
Generally, the Erasmus+ grant will amount to 620-670 Euro per full month.
It is possible to apply for an Erasmus grant for an internship, even if you have previously received an Erasmus grant in connection with an exchange stay. However, the total period you receive an Erasmus scholarship may not exceed 12 months each educational level.
Here's how you do it:
- You complete KEA's normal internship contract
- When your internship supervisor has approved the contract, it will be sent by e-mail to the company and you
- When both the company and you have approved the contract, KEA Global will be notified of this
- Approx. within 2 weeks of final approval, KEA Global will contact you with information on how to apply
The Erasmus scholarship
If you have any questions regarding the Erasmus programme, you can contact the international coordinator.
Insurance
When a foreign company takes you on an internship, the relevant country's rules regarding insurance for interns are followed. In some countries, companies are obliged to insure interns, while in other countries it is up to the intern himself.
When you enter into an internship agreement with a foreign company, you must always ask the company whether you are covered by the company's:
- Workers' compensation insurance
- Liability insurance
If you are covered by the company's insurance:

In addition, it is a good idea to take out travel insurance, so you are better covered in terms of illness and possibly home transport.
If you are NOT covered by the company's insurances:

Internship outside Europe
Unfortunately, there are no scholarships you can apply for through KEA, but you can apply for support yourself from private foundations and scholarships
