Lygten 16 is soon becoming more sustainable. We're about to install a solar panel system on the roof of the back building, providing 425 m2 filled with green energy.
Solar panels are coming to Lygten 16
Staff from Facility and Tech departments have checked how much electricity we use and when we use it the most during the day. So, all the energy we get from the solar panels is going to cover our peak electricity consumption. And the best part? We expect to generate at least 20% of our own electricity. As students at KEA, you'll have the opportunity to monitor how much electricity we produce – and incorporate it into your studies.
At KEA, we're eager to join the green wave and think more sustainably, especially with the rising energy costs. The solar panels are expected to produce about 80,000 kWh per year. That's almost equivalent to the electricity consumption of 50 people. Plus, we're reducing our CO₂ emissions by 9,500 kg annually. It's like preventing a car from driving around the Earth 6 times.
The installation starts on September 27, and we expect everything to be up and running by December. And there are more solar panel systems on the way at KEA. On the Guldbergsgade campus, we're planning a system on the roof of Building A as an addition to the smaller system on Building E.
