At GBG, a new sustainable initiative will be implemented from January 2024: Paper towels will be phased out and replaced with cotton cloths where applicable. These cloths are sewn from discarded or decommissioned textiles and replace 2 to 3 pieces of paper towels per hand drying.
No More Paper Towels at GBG
They can be washed up to 300 times before disposal, and KEA is thus contributing to giving old and discarded textiles a new lease of life.
By replacing two pieces of paper towels with a cotton cloth, approximately 30% less greenhouse gas is emitted in the overall calculation, including transportation and the washing process. In addition to an expected reduction of just over 4 tons of residual waste per year at GBG, there will also be a reduction in the use of plastic bags for waste basket liners.
