Emil is chairman for BAR16 and has signed up as a tutor after the summer.
Meet a volunteer: Emil from Tech
Where do you volunteer?
"I am the chairman of BAR16 on Lygten, and I will be a tutor after the summer holidays. "
How did you get involved with volunteering at KEA?
"What made me sign up as a volunteer was my desire for new experiences. I wanted to be part of a larger and informal community. Besides, I'm just happy to say 'Yes!'"
Three reasons to volunteer
- Experiences - "The experiences you get are clearly one of the things that make it all worth it. An example of one of those experiences is the Volunteer Gala, which was held this semester. We volunteers were really spoiled, and it was a great experience. This April, the trade union HK also organized a weekend stay at a hotel in Svendborg, where volunteers from all business academies had the opportunity to network and have fun. It almost seemed too good to be true.”
- Network and learning - "In addition to the fact that the community you become part of is super nice, it is also educational. You build up a network, which is definitely something you can use outside of the classroom.”
- The CV - “I attended a webinar on Thursday, which was about how to write a good CV. Here it was mentioned that volunteer work can be advantageous to have on the CV for potential employers, as it shows that you are committed and have plenty energy. So this is probably my last good reason to volunteer.

What is your favorite place at KEA?
“Without a doubt BAR16. Haha. We serve the best drinks and we have good outdoor facilities and generally it's just a nice environment.”
How much time do you spend, in average, on volunteering a week?
"On average, I probably use around. 4 hours, I think. It's not really something I keep track of that much. I don't think of it as 'work' because I have a lot of fun with it. So the time flies by."
Have you gained new skills through your volunteer work?
"Before I started as chairman, I was a little afraid of taking responsibility. It seemed a little scary and I thought; "what have I gotten myself into?" Now that I've gotten the hang of everything, I actually just think it's fun. It's definitely made me better at taking responsibility, and maybe actually just saying more 'yes' to things and opportunities.”
Here is why you should volunteer according to Emil!
"You actually get something extra out of going to KEA that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. You form new skills and get personal development, and you get to know many new people. It's great to be able to expand your network, which is also an important part of studying. When you say 'yes' to volunteering, you give yourself the best conditions to achieve this."
